Important Information
Please Read Carefully Prior to Installing Your New RV Cover
Thank you for purchasing your new CALMARK RV protective cover. In order to obtain long term life of your cover as well as your RV it is important that you read the following information prior to installation.
Consumer Awareness: Inspect your cover immediately and notify CALMARK of any defects or nonconformities no later than 10 days from date of purchase. Covers are not made to fit like a glove; all covers have allowances for easy installation and removal. There is not a material made that will not tear if secured improperly or comes in direct contact with sharp objects. Take the necessary steps to protect your cover from problems that may occur due to outside exposure, that are not covered under your warranty.
About Your Warranty: You will find a warranty registration card on the back of your manual, which must be completed within 10 days of purchase and returned to CALMARK Resources Inc. The warranty covers both “Material and workmanship”. Your warranty does NOT cover tears or wear spots in the fabric caused by wind, sharp objects or friction, which is why it is extremely important that you read this manual and take the precautionary steps to protect your cover prior to installation. Moving your RV with the cover on will terminate your warranty.
Installing Your New RV Cover: Prior to installation it is very important to make sure all sharp items on your RV are padded. Examples: ends of awnings, which are very sharp, tops of AC units, windshield wipers, ends of exhaust pipes, sides of ladder etc. Pad sharp objects: Padding material suggestions are old towels, socks (for your antenna’s) or rubber from an inner tube. Secure this over all sharp areas using strong tape. This will allow you to remove and replace the padding when you install or remove your cover. (Most antennas are spring mounted and will lay down under the cover.) Use Caution when climbing up your ladder, and when walking on the roof or your RV. (After all sharp objects are covered) Take the cover to the top of your RV; unroll the cover from the rear to the front. Once cover is unrolled, let the sides of your cover fall off the sides of your RV. Do not try to adjust while walking on your RV. Take the end of your cover down your ladder with you and adjust your cover from the ground.
Grommets: All CALMARK RV covers are equipped with grommets on both sides of the bottom hem. After you have properly placed your cover on your RV use bungees (NOT INCLUDED) through the grommets as shown below. Your cover should be snugly secured. Do Not use excessive force, which could damage the cover fabric around the grommet areas.
Securing your RV Cover during high wind periods: It may be necessary to tie a rope around the RV end to end as shown above during high winds to reduce movement of the fabric.
Note: Damage caused by wind or sharp objects is not covered under the warranty. In the event you do experience a tear, it is advised that it be repaired immediately to eliminate further damage. Repair kits can be obtained by calling (805)- 486-3863 or by completing the form on page 7 of this manual when sending in your warranty card.
Reinforcement Kit: With the purchase of your cover you will receive a reinforcement kit that contains pieces of fabric along with glue and applicator. This is to be used in the event you obtain wear spots on the inside of the cover due to friction (constant movement). For best results lay the cover on a flat surface and place a patch on the inside part of the cover. If wear spots persist, check to make sure that your cover is secured properly.
Maintenance and support.
Taking a few moments to protect your coyer Will give long-term protection to your RV as well.
In order for material to retain its strength it must be maintained properly, especially when exposed to the harsh weather conditions of the sun, wind, rain, snow and ice. It has been our goal at CALMARK to offer not only the best protection available for your RV, but also, to provide you various methods on how to retain long term life of your cover.
Water run-off: Even though your cover is water resistant, it is important to make sure you are getting total water run-off at all times. Some early model coaches have fiat roofs that do not allow water to escape, especially those coaches with two AC units where water has a tendency to form pools. If your coach has a fiat roof it is advised that you run something (PVC pipe, 2×4) between the two AC units giving your roof line an (A) frame effect as shown in the following diagram. This precautionary measure is very important where heavy snow and ice conditions prevail. It is also important to make sure that the ends of your PVC pipe or support brace are padded so it will not damage the material.
Wind: One or the major problems that occurs to material exposed to the harsh elements of Mother Nature is damage due to wind. Material, which is constantly moving back and forth on foreign objects, will cause abrasion to the material that will eventually result in fiber breakdown and reduction of the fabric life. It is important to make sure that your cover is secured in a snug position at all times. If you notice that you are getting wear spots on the inside of your cover, it is suggested that you use the abrasion kit supplied. Adhere a piece of material on those locations (inside) where the wear spots are evident. Also make sure those areas on the RV are padded.
Care and Cleaning
All fabrics exposed to outdoor use should be cleaned periodically before substances such as dirt, roof particles, tree sap etc., are allowed to accumulate on and become embedded in the fabric. The fabric can be cleaned without being removed from the RV. Simply hose down and clean with a mild natural soap, (if needed), in lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly to remove soap and let air dry. Wash your cover in the late afternoon to avoid intense baking from the sun. DO NOT USE DETERGENT.
Stains or heavy soiled areas: Wet the soiled fabric area with water using a small amount of mild non-detergent soap. Using a soft sponge work into lather on the soiled or stained area. Rinse thoroughly with large amounts of water and allow it to air dry. It is important that all soap residues are removed.
Storage of your Cover: It is extremely important that when you store your RV cover, make sure it is completely dry. If wet, allow to air dry and store in a dry, well-ventilated area. Storing when wet (not normal use) will cause mildew and is not covered under your warranty.
Customer Service: If you are in need of any assistance with your new RV cover, or have any questions, we ask that you call our Customer Service Dept. at (805)-486-3863 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am – 4pm PST.
